Marguerite Duras, właśc. Marguerite Donnadieu – francuska pisarka, scenarzystka i reżyserka.

Urodziła się we francuskich Indochinach. Swój pseudonim artystyczny przyjęła w 1943 od nazwy wioski w departamencie Lot i Garonna, gdzie znajdował się dom jej ojca. Całe dzieciństwo i młodość spędziła w Indochinach, które stanowić będą wielokrotnie inspirację dla jej twórczości. Powróciła do ojczyzny swoich rodziców, by podjąć studia prawnicze. Przez kilka lat pracowała w sekretariacie ministerstwa do spraw kolonii. W czasie wojny współpracowała z ruchem oporu, wstąpiła też do partii komunistycznej, z której została wykluczona w 1955.

Mimo że jej rodzice pragnęli, by kontynuowała karierę prawniczą, Marguerite postanowiła, że zostanie pisarką. Jej pierwsze dzieła ukazały się już w czasie wojny, ale szerszej publiczności objawiła się dzięki powieści Un barrage contre le Pacifique , w której pojawia się wiele wątków autobiograficznych. Przez całe życie stworzyła wiele powieści, dobrze przyjmowanych przez krytykę, ale jej największym sukcesem okazała się wydana w 1984 powieść Kochanek , za którą otrzymała nagrodę Goncourt.

Jej twórczość obejmuje blisko 40 powieści i 10 sztuk teatralnych. Duras pisała także scenariusze filmowe, m.in. Hiroszima, moja miłość . Sama wyreżyserowała 19 filmów pełno i krótkometrażowych, m.in. India Song i Les enfants.

Marguerite Duras zmarła 3 marca 1996 w Paryżu, została pochowana na cmentarzu Montparnasse. Wikipedia
